Fire can spread rapidly and have devastating consequences, making prevention and preparedness essential. Taking simple steps to reduce fire risks and knowing how to respond in an emergency can help protect lives and property.

Key Fire Safety Tips:

  • Test smoke alarms regularly and ensure there is at least one on every level of your home.
  • Create and practise a home fire escape plan so everyone knows how to get out quickly and safely.
  • Keep exits and escape routes clear at all times.
  • Never leave cooking unattended and take care with candles, heaters, and electrical appliances.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of the reach of children.

If a Fire Occurs:

  • Get out, stay out, and call 999 immediately.
  • Do not attempt to tackle a fire unless it is safe to do so.
  • If smoke is present, stay low to the ground where the air is cleaner.
