Multi-Agency Radiological Response Demonstration Taking Place in Felixstowe on 5 and 6 October 2026
Residents and businesses in the Felixstowe area are being advised of a planned multi-agency radiological response demonstration taking place at Brackenbury Leisure Centre on 5 and 6 October 2026.
The demonstration will bring together emergency services and partner organisations to test the procedures used to respond to a radiological incident, including the establishment and operation of decontamination facilities. Regular exercises such as this help ensure agencies are prepared to work together effectively should a real incident ever occur.
Dates and Times
- Monday 5 October 2026
- Site set-up: 1:00pm to 5:00pm
- Tuesday 6 October 2026
- Demonstration and clear-up activities: 8:00am to 5:00pm
Please be assured that this is a training demonstration only and not a real emergency. There is no risk to the public, no radioactive materials will be used, and no action is required from residents.
Residents may notice:
- Temporary structures being erected at Brackenbury Leisure Centre.
- Emergency service vehicles and partner agency personnel in the area.
- Staff wearing protective clothing as part of the demonstration.
- Temporary traffic management measures around the site.
Traffic Management Arrangements
To support the safe delivery of the demonstration, temporary traffic management measures will be in place:
- Quintons Lane will be closed at its junction with High Road East.
- Temporary traffic signals will be in operation outside Brackenbury Leisure Centre, High Road East, Felixstowe, between 4:00pm on 5 October and 11:59pm on 6 October 2026.
- To enable the temporary traffic signals to be installed, the cycle lane on High Road East, outside Brackenbury Sports Centre, will be suspended.
- Pedestrians will be directed by signage, and cyclists are asked to dismount while passing through the area.
