Are you Winter Prepared?

Winter in Suffolk can bring storms, flooding, icy roads, power cuts and extra pressure on our health and household budgets. Even after a mild autumn, winter can change quickly, which is why we can’t afford to be complacent.

When severe weather, power cuts or fires strike, those who have thought ahead recover faster and stay safer. The difference between coping and struggling often comes down to a few simple steps taken early and everyone deserves to know what winter could bring and what to do about it.

Check your home, health, travel and community. Take simple steps now.

Suffolk Resilience Forum’s Winter Prepared campaign runs for 16 weeks, from November 2026 to February 2027. Each week focuses on a different theme across the four main messages of home, health, travel and community, such as Fire Safety, Winter Wellbeing, Power Cut Preparedness and Flood Awareness. The campaign booklet has simple checklists to help you get ready.

Getting ready doesn’t have to be complicated. A few small actions today could protect your home, your family, your business and your bank balance. Full checklist to help you stay prepared can be found below:

Throughout the winter, we will be highlighting a series of themed topics designed to help people prepare for and cope with the challenges that the season can bring. From staying warm and reducing fire risks at home, to looking after physical and mental wellbeing, travelling safely in adverse weather, and supporting those who may be more vulnerable, each theme will provide practical advice and simple steps that people can take.

Throughout the 16-week campaign, we will share new resources, tips, checklists and guidance to help you and your community stay safe, well and prepared throughout the winter months. Check back regularly for the latest information and practical actions you can take.

As part of the campaign launch, we are encouraging residents to take a few moments to review the Winter Preparedness Checklist. The checklist brings together simple, practical steps that can help individuals, families and communities prepare for the challenges that winter may bring. From checking smoke alarms and emergency supplies to planning journeys, looking after wellbeing and supporting vulnerable neighbours, taking action now can help you stay prepared.

We will be promoting the checklist throughout the campaign across our social media channels, website and partner networks.
